Non-profit organization sends hundreds of lights to the Philippines.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

One Santa Barbara based company is lighting the way for many without electricity in the typhoon-hit areas of the Philippines.

Unite to Light is a nonprofit organization providing light weight solar LED lights to people without adequate electricity around the world.

With little power in many of the areas hit by the storm, this group has sent over 200 lights to the Philippines and are working on sending hundreds more.

President Dawn O'Bar says that although food and medical supplies are used up quickly, the lights will still be available. They can last for more than five years and are water resistant. The lights are solar powered and once charged, can last for 4-6 hours at night.

Unite to Light has sent out more than 55,000 lights to over 65 countries in the last few years. They've proved to be helpful in disasters, developing countries and even in childbirth kits.
