ABOUT 3000 CREW MEMBERS ARE COMING OFF THE MASSIVE AIRCRAFT CARRIER THIS WEEKEND TO SEE SANTA BARBARA, AND IN SOME CASES, FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE COME HERE TO SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH THEM DURING THIS SHORE LEAVE.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

The crew of the USS Ronald Reagan has begun a weekend of shore leave in Santa Barbara as hundreds of sailors start visiting downtown and touring the area.

Some headed right for the downtown shopping and dining district.   Others boarded a bus to a special polo match in Carpinteria.

Tomorrow members of the public will tour the massive aircraft carrier which was adopted by the Santa Barbara Navy leave more than a decade ago.

There will also be softball games, and community service activities.

Some crew members who have family close by are inviting them to Santa Barbara to share the break from the normal schedule at sea.

The USS Ronald Reagan will be reassigned to Japan next year.  It is currently based in San Diego.
