SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

Four airmen from Vandenberg Air Force Base received a pleasant surprise on their return home after being deployed in Guantanamo Bay for the past 6 months. The four airmen arrived at the Santa Maria Airport this afternoon to a warm welcoming.

It was put together by the organization Welcome Home Military Heroes. Dozens of locals showed up with American flags and banners in hand to surprise them.

"It's just good to be home, good to be appreciated and see that we affect so many people," said Senior Airman Max Morell.

Welcome Home Military Heroes has surprised more than 500 veterans over the years.
