The much needed rainfall may spell out some relief but does NOT mean residents can ease up on their conservation efforts.

The much needed rainfall may spell out some relief but does not mean residents can ease up on their conservation efforts.

In fact local counties are far from getting out of the drought. A Stage One Drought is the first stage of Santa Barbara's plan to reduce water during the dry conditions. The city is asking its residents and businesses  to reduce their water use by 20%.  And since nature is going to water our plants residents are asked to shutoff sprinklers for a few weeks. This will help save about 1,000 gallons of water a day

Data from the National Weather Service shows the regions rainfall from last July and how much would be needed to get to normal. The data shows the city of Santa Barbara is short roughly 11 inches and Santa Maria just shy of 9.
