AVILA BEACH, Calif -

Record breaking warm temperatures have people flocking to the beach and into the water in San Luis Obispo County.

It is usually a slow time of year for water sports but a mix of locals and tourists from all over the country are taking advantage of the sunny skies and calm waters.

Central Coast Kayaks in Shell Beach says a lot of visitors from the east coast have been coming to the Central Coast to escape the cold. It has even been opening earlier for some people eager to get on the water.

"It has really influenced our business,” said Schiro. “November we were up 100 percent, December we were up 35 percent, and so far in January we are up about 28 percent, so I just think people come out of the wood work and they want to be outside, the weather is not affecting what they do."

Schiro says in his 20 years of business this is the busiest winter he’s ever had.
