The "Wet Wednesday" yacht races have been cancelled for today because of the sand clogged Santa Barbara harbor entrance.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

The "Wet Wednesday" boat races in front of the Santa Barbara Yacht Club will be delayed a week because of the sand build up at the harbor.  The problem has impacted many commercial and recreational vessels.

Dredging may begin later this week, once a part for the broken dredge arrives.

The weekly races are very popular and run from spring until fall.

Tomorrow's event would have been the first one of the season.

Director Brad Schaupeter said there was no way the vessels could get out of the harbor and while the skippers and crew may be coming down to the docks tomorrow they will not be able to get out as planned.
