SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department increases staffing because of high winds expected Thursday and Friday.

The wind advisory is in effect until Friday morning for the Santa Barbara Mountains as well as the south Santa Barbara County including Montecito, Carpinteria, Santa Barbara and Goleta.

A combination of the wind and the dry conditions increase the likelihood of fire danger.

So, the fire department has increased staffing with about 15 extra people across the county, which includes three engines, a water tender, a dozer, a dispatch captain and battalion chief.

Fuel moisture levels are extremely low, and while the firemen and women do their part to be ready if a fire sparks, they remind people to follow the permit burn rules.

"Normally at this time of year we allow people to do their permit burns but we haven't allowed that yet this year cause we haven't had the two inches of rain that we normally do," said Capt. David Sadecki of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
