The modern day Republican Party is born in a schoolhouse in Wisconsin in 1854.
The very first national convention takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1856.
Abraham Lincoln becomes the First Republican President in 1861. He serves until his assassination in 1865.
Ulysses S. Grant is elected in 1869 and becomes the first Republican president to serve for two full terms.
The Republican Elephant is born in 1874.
William McKinley is elected President in 1897. The election of William McKinley in 1896 is widely seen as a resurgence of Republican dominance.
Theodore Roosevelt is elected President in 1901.
Dwight Eisenhower is elected President in 1953.
Richard Nixon becomes President in 1969.
The Watergate scandal begins in 1972.
Ronald Reagan is elected President in 1981. In 1987, Reagan made a famous speech at the Berlin wall asking Mr. Gorbachev to "tear down the wall."
George W. Bush becomes President in 2001, 12 years after his father is first elected President.
Iraq War begins in 2003.
Most recently, John McCain and Sarah Palin concede the 2008 Presidential election.
