A day after Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant withdrew from the U.S. national team, Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay took his spot on the roster.

Gay, who has international experience, reached out to USA Basketball to express his interest in contributing. He played for the U.S. gold-medal-winning team in the 2010 world championships and was one of the final cuts made on the 2012 U.S. Olympic roster.

Gay was traded from the Toronto Raptors to the Kings during the 2013-14 NBA season and averaged 20 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 73 games between the teams.

Gay will join the national team at its training camp on Aug. 14 in Chicago. Also on the roster is Kings teammate DeMarcus Cousins.

The U.S. team is preparing for the FIBA World Cup in Spain on Aug.30-Sept. 14.

--- USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo told that injured Indiana Pacers forward Paul George has been promised a spot on the 2016 Olympic team.

"We thought it's the right thing to do," Colangelo said Thursday. "That's it. ... We didn't give thought to all the detail. Just that when a guy goes down and all these things, the circumstances, his career passes before him, he's out for a year, a year-plus, he's not able to participate now with us. We wanted to throw that out and say, 'We're counting on you. You've got a spot in '16.' "

The 2016 games are in Rio de Janeiro.

George is expected to be sidelined at least a year after breaking his right leg during the U.S. team's intrasquad scrimmage a week ago in Las Vegas.

---The Philadelphia 76ers will acquire center Anthony Bennett as part of the Kevin Love trade, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

The Cleveland Cavaliers sent Bennett, guard/forward Andrew Wiggins and a future first-round draft pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Love.

Minnesota will send Bennett, as part of a package of players, to Philadelphia in exchange for forward Thaddeus Young.

The deal will become official on Aug. 23. Cleveland signed No. 1 draft choice Wiggins on July 24. NBA rules stipulate that draft picks cannot be traded within 30 days of their signing.

---The Phoenix Suns signed first-round draft picks T.J. Warren (14th overall selection) and Tyler Ennis (18th overall).

Warren, a forward, was the No. 14 overall pick and Ennis, a point guard, was taken 18th overall.

---The Washington Wizards named Roy Rogers as an assistant under coach Randy Wittman.

Rogers spent last season with the Brooklyn Nets. He began his NBA coaching career with the Nets beginning in 2008. He then served as an assistant coach with the Boston Celtics as part of Doc Rivers' staff in 2010-11 before joining the Detroit Pistons for the next two seasons under coach Lawrence Frank.
