GOLETA, Calif. -

No high school girl in the country has thrown the shot put farther this year than Dos Pueblos junior Stamatia Scarvelis. No one is expected to beat her this weekend at the CIF State Meet in Fresno.

Scarvelis is the reigning state champion in the shot put and last week at the CIF-SS Masters Meet, she threw a nation's best this year of 51 feet, 9.25 inches. Arroyo Grande's Madison Jacobs and Camarillo's Geraldynn Leaupepe are in the shot put as well.

Scarvelis is also competing in the discus along with Jacobs who has the second longest throw in the state this year of over 163 feet. Ventura's Katelynn Homb and Newbury Park's Kendall Mader are also in the discus.

Simi Valley junior Sarah Baxter, the premier high school girl's runner in the country, will be going for her third consecutive state title in the 3200 meters. Ventura's Hannah Kirkagaard has also qualified for this event.

Westlake's Abigail Smith will compete in the 100 and she will team up with Brooke Edell, Nicole Greenberg and Sara Schwartz in the 4x100 relay.

Buena's Erinn Beattie, Rio Mesa's Raegan Nizdil and Maya Hutchinson of Oaks Christian will compete in the high jump while Ventura's Holly Tokar is entered in the pole vault.

As for DP's Bryan Fernandez, he is already a state champion in cross country. The University of Oregon-bound senior will compete in the boys 1600 meters.

Arroyo Grande's Elijah Holt will compete in the 110 hurdles while Lompoc's Nikko Hayes who will play football at Idaho State, qualified for the 300 hurdles. Oxnard's Jelani Legohn will also run the 300 hurdles.

Ventura's Eric Bielke will throw in the boys shot put, Agoura's Idrees Bernard is in the triple jump while Luigi Colella of Thousand Oaks and Ventura's Jake David will leap in the boys pole vault.
