UCSB Baseball Denied Regional Bid

UCSB was not selected as part of the 64-team field that make up the NCAA Baseball playoffs.
UCSB finishes the year at 34-17-1. Santa Barbara was on the bubble but with an RPI of 50, they felt like they had a decent chance at being selected as an at-large team. UCSB's 12-12 Big West Conference record ultimately was not enough for them to get into the postseason.
Last year UCSB was one of the last teams selected for the playoffs but this time they are on the outside looking in at the playoffs.
Four Big West schools are headed to regionals: Cal Poly, Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine. Cal Poly was selected as one of 16 sites to host a regional.
UCSB's RPI is better than Fullerton's and the Gauchos won the season series from the Titans but CSUF was picked ahead of Santa Barbara. A struggling UC Irvine team was one of the last teams picked for postseason. The Anteaters enter the tournament having lost six straight games.
