Daytona Beach, Fla. -- This area has come a long way since the days of MTV's Spring Break. This Labor Day Weekend, catch free concerts at the Daytona Beach Bandshell on Friday and Saturday. Baseball lovers can watch the Daytona Cubs through Sunday, and there's also the third annual Main Street End of Summer Party & Rum Fest at Main Street Station on Sunday.
The Jersey Shore -- The beaches have bounced back from Superstorm Sandy, so pay a visit to one of New Jersey's many beachside waterparks like Raging Waters or the Ocean Oasis Waterpark & Beach Club. Families with small children should opt for Asbury Splash Park.
Lake Tahoe -- Take the kids to the South Lake Tahoe Community Fair at the Heavenly Mountain Base Lodge or hop on board one of two Mississippi paddewheeler boats on Saturday for the 21st annual Great Lake Tahoe Sternwheeler Race. Another notable event is the fourth annual Sample the Sierra Festival on Sunday.
Miami -- Each year, Nikki Beach Miami hosts its Labor Day Endless Summer Party, a farm-to-table Sunday brunch featuring made-to-order crepes, omelettes, Belgian waffles and other breakfast delicacies. In need of some zen? Stake out the perfect spot on any of Miami Beach's seven miles of sand.
Park City, Utah -- Labor Day is known as Park City Miner's Day here -- a tradition dating back to 1898. The celebration honors the area's rich mining heritage and includes live music and the annual Miner's Day Parade. Watch as thousands of balls are released down Main Street for prizes in the annual Running of the Balls on Monday.
Virginia Beach, Va. -- For three days over Labor Day weekend, more than 30 bands will take the stage for the Verizon Wireless American Music Festival along the beach. Looking to be more active? The Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half-Marathon winds through city streets on Sunday, raising money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Washington, D.C. -- The National Symphony Orchestra performs a free concert for the public on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol each Sunday night of Labor Day weekend, while the 25th annual DC Blues Festival goes all afternoon Saturday at the Carter Barron Amphitheater.
Chicago -- The 36th annual Chicago Jazz Festival runs from Thursday through Sunday, while Washington Park is also home to the 25th annual African Festival of the Arts from Friday through Monday.
