When inmates are released from the Santa Barbara County jail, late at night, they don't always have a place to go or a way to get somewhere. That's where the "Lights On" program comes in.
Hank Bowis and Tom Doty and other volunteers arrive at the Inmate Reception Center around 10 p.m, four nights a week to help.
They offer coffee, snacks, bus schedules, phone chargers, jackets and anything else they have that will help. They usually stay until 1 a.m., when releases slow down.
